What is Tri-Dosha and why is it relevant in Ayurveda?
As per Ayurveda, three main energies govern our environments. The science of understanding, how our body and mind system behaves as per these three energies is called Tridosha. In Sanskrit, they are segregated and are called – Vata (wind) dosh, Pitta (Fire) dosh and Kapha (Earth) dosh. In English we can call dosh as problem.
Vata (wind) dosh – The most powerful of the three dosh’s, Vata dosh controls the mind, breathing, blood flow, heart function, etc. If Vata dosh is present in someone, then it is more likely that conditions like anxiety, asthma, heart disease, skin problems, and rheumatoid arthritis will affect the body.
Pitta (Fire) dosh – Influenced by fire and water, Pitta dosh controls digestion and metabolism. People with Pitta dosh should avoid spicy foods. Also, they are more likely to develop heart disease, high blood pressure and infections.
Kapha (Earth) Dosh – Kapha dosh controls muscle growth, body strength and immune system. People with Kapha dosh should avoid eating food containing sweets, avoid consumption of salt, too much water. Also, they may develop breathing related diseases like asthma, cancer, and obesity.
Balance is the key
Every one of us has the above three dosh, in varied quantity. But one of the dosh remains stronger than the other two. Each one controls a certain portion of our body and its behaviour. So if you fall ill, it is because of the imbalance of the above three dosh or any one of the dosh.
As you might have predicted by now, and many times realized also but didn’t pay any attention to it – Life is all about balance. And here comes the part of meditation and yoga. As I have mentioned earlier, only herbal medicine alone will not solve your health issues. Along with medicines, daily and disciplined practice or yoga and meditation will not only recover you completely but will make sure that you do not fall ill for a very long period.
